Teaching and Other Things
One morning, I was welcoming 26 Kindergarten children and their families to our school. Some children were excited and talking. Some were nervous and quiet. Just a few were teary-eyed. But one child definitely did not want to be in school. His dad carried him into the classroom. The little boy was screaming by this time. His father handed him to me and said, "He is all yours!" Then he left the building. It took some time but eventually the little boy stopped screaming. This was the first day of my teaching career!
I am a graduate of Northern Illinois University. I have a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Math and Science. Over the years I have attended many workshops about teaching reading and have completed graduate coursework in math and science.
I have been teaching at St. Viator School since the fall of 1978. I taught Kindergarten for 3 years, third grade for 5 years, fourth grade for 3 years, and fifth grade for 1 year. The remaining years have been spent teaching first grade.
My husband, Dale, and I have one child. Our daughter, Robin, is a St. Viator alumni, class of 2000. We also have a cat named Maxie. She looks sweet but watch out! She does not like strangers!
